You must have heard of the popular
show being aired nowadays on doctor’s life, “Grey’s Anatomy”. This TV show is
turning for a reality show for the medical students of Shanghai ho want to
adopt medical as a profession. They are preparing for the USMLE nowadays which
consists of 3 steps.
After step 2, follows an interview.
The computer decides for the residency of the doctors and the physicians. Gao
Shan was also recruited and sent to USE in June. Toledo Medical University did
the honors. But the question is that why are Shanghai students interested to go
abroad for the practices and stuff?
The main problem is that China has
heavy workload for its employees and less pay in return. This thing frustrates
the students out. They believe that working as professionals for the hospitals
abroad will enhance their abilities and make them more professional than China
can. This will make them better future doctors and one day they will pay back
China with it.
Gao Shan states that it is very
difficult and a tough job to go through the USMLE test as it requires lot of
hard work and stamina to do so. Interviews are obstacles; the real test also
begins when you start your job being a resident there. The benefit of going
through all this is making you stronger and able to achieve your goals and
missions.
After passing through hurdles, one
completely becomes a different and a new person with more capabilities. This is
the advantage of opting US for USMLE and professional fields that is why more
Chinese students are going for it. According to USMLE reports, 30%o of students
give the exam but only 10% of them proceed. Still the officials are encouraging
the students to take the exam.
China’s school director says that
they don’t worry about the students who go abroad for studies instead they are
happy because they will return as professionals and serve the country. It is
better than none of the student going abroad.
