WHY MEDICAL STUDENTS OPT FOR USA?

You must have heard of the popular show being aired nowadays on doctor’s life, “Grey’s Anatomy”. This TV show is turning for a reality show for the medical students of Shanghai ho want to adopt medical as a profession. They are preparing for the USMLE nowadays which consists of 3 steps.

After step 2, follows an interview. The computer decides for the residency of the doctors and the physicians. Gao Shan was also recruited and sent to USE in June. Toledo Medical University did the honors. But the question is that why are Shanghai students interested to go abroad for the practices and stuff?

The main problem is that China has heavy workload for its employees and less pay in return. This thing frustrates the students out. They believe that working as professionals for the hospitals abroad will enhance their abilities and make them more professional than China can. This will make them better future doctors and one day they will pay back China with it.

Gao Shan states that it is very difficult and a tough job to go through the USMLE test as it requires lot of hard work and stamina to do so. Interviews are obstacles; the real test also begins when you start your job being a resident there. The benefit of going through all this is making you stronger and able to achieve your goals and missions. 

After passing through hurdles, one completely becomes a different and a new person with more capabilities. This is the advantage of opting US for USMLE and professional fields that is why more Chinese students are going for it. According to USMLE reports, 30%o of students give the exam but only 10% of them proceed. Still the officials are encouraging the students to take the exam.

China’s school director says that they don’t worry about the students who go abroad for studies instead they are happy because they will return as professionals and serve the country. It is better than none of the student going abroad.

HOW TO SCORE GOOD IN USMLE STEP 1

Getting high score in USMLE step 1 exam is major concern for every medical student who wishes to achieve goal of getting into desired specialty. Therefore just passing the exam with marginal grades is not good enough rather not acceptable at all because there is no option of improving grads in USMLE Step 1, these are once for life time.

 

The purpose of this exam is to assess the students that how well they can apply their med knowledge and concepts. Although they students learn every single concept in detail their course work yet most of the students fail to get high scores. One major reason is the short time and a lot of study material to be reviewed. Time needs to be considered as the most crucial factor in preparation of USMLE exam. Use time wisely by adopting proper study techniques and making best use of every single available moment.

Try to avoid passive studying like coping notes, sticking to a single studying technique don’t work in true sense. Apply highly focused active studying methods like rewriting the topics in your own words, using help of flowcharts, continuous self assessments, associating concepts with practical issues and multimedia can enhance learning ability that can ultimately drive you towards your target score.  

A well known saying is Practice makes a man perfect and it applies to every field of life. Deliberate Practice is preferred for such kind of focused learning. Try to emphasize more on the topics you are weak at. Take an overview of all topics, mark boundaries of all topics, get into depth of each topic, repeat each topic with a key focus to memorize important things and finally combine all topics and find their relation with each other.
